The Albanian Media Council is an independent organization of journalists, legally registered as a Non-Profit Organization (NPO), which aims to create independent, ethical and professional media in Albania. The organization was founded in 2015, as an initiative of 7 media professionals, aware of the importance of quality reporting in the media and with the aim of promoting self-regulation in the journalist community, as an important lever to restore and maintain the trust of the Albanian public.
The founding members of the Council are 30 Albanian journalists from television, print and online media.
The governing body of KSHM is the General Assembly of Members and the Governing Board consisting of 7 members.
While the Code of Media Ethics in Albania was drawn up in 1996 and again in 2006, efforts to establish an Albanian Media Council have failed over the years, despite the fact that the violation of the code is continuous, and has even turned into standard.
