The Quebec Press Council is a private, non-profit organization that works to protect press freedom and defend the public's right to quality information. Its activities extend to all news media distributed or broadcast in Quebec, whether or not they are members of the Council, and whether they belong to the print, radio, television or digital media.
It was created in 1973 on the joint initiative of journalists and news media executives, with the involvement of public representatives from the outset. It is a tripartite body, with its board and committees made up of professional journalists, representatives of media companies and representatives of the public.
