The following is a statement of the Alliance of Independent Press Councils of Europe (AIPCE).
At an Extraordinary Meeting of AIPCE held on Tuesday 29th August 2023 the following motion was passed by majority (11 councils present: 10 votes yes, 1 abstention):
This motion confirms that the Russian Press Collegium is no longer a member of the Alliance of Independent Press Councils of Europe (AIPCE). The media landscape in Russian is not compatible with press freedom and a system of independent self-regulation cannot operate under the current circumstances. The effect of this motion is that the Russian Press Collegium would only be able to become a member of the AIPCE in future by applying to join the AIPCE according to its regulations.
